Make the most of your print

We always aim to help our customers make the most of their print work. In this article you will find some of the most common questions and tips around what is possible with your print to support you making your design as amazing as possible!

Can there be any movement on your print?

There can be movement on your print due to the tolerance levels of the printing press and the finishing equipment, our production teams always do their best to keep these to a minimum however keep these in mind when designing your perfect print!

  • Flat products 1-2mm
  • Folded 1-2mm
  • Foiling 2-3mm
  • Stickers 1-2mm

Why do I need bleed?

Adding 3mm of bleed to your artwork can support the printing and finishing process and ensure that your prints have no white edges and are printed with edge to edge colour. Find out more information on bleed here

Can I print borders on my artwork?

Borders are a design choice used by a lot of customers. Getting borders perfect can be difficult to achieve with the slight movement on some of the machinery.

If you can, consider removing the borders from your artwork to achieve a perfect result, however if the borders are an important part of your design consider making them as thick as possible to give our operators the best chance to get these perfect for you.

Our print design experts advise you do not use borders on any print smaller than A6 including stickers to achieve the best results.

Can you colour match?

We can’t guarantee that colours will match perfectly between different orders. This is due to the large number of variables that can be apparent in the printing process (printing drum wear / different printing presses used / printing toner variables), which can produce different results between prints.

We also can’t guarantee that artwork printed at different times will colour match due to the exact same reasons.

Do you print CMYK?

Most of our products are printed in CMYK. The RGB colour spectrum is much larger and different to CMYK, so if you supply your artwork as RGB, what you receive when printed will differ to what you supplied. Bright colours will appear duller muted effect, and more often that's not what you'll want for your print!

Before you save your PDF file make sure you've converted it to CMYK so you'll then have a truer indication of what it will look like when printed. You can use Photoshop to readjust colour if required.

Getting a vibrant black

If you are looking for a really vibrant large area of black in your artwork set your CMYK preference to 20/20/20/100 this is the CMYK value that will give you the deepest black as a block colour. Standard text within your artwork can remain at 0/0/0/100 CMYK.
