How do I print with Canva?
What is perfect binding?
Perfect binding is a process where the pages and cover are glued together at the spine with a strong adhesive. This method gives the Journal a clean, professional look with a flat spine, making it ideal for higher page counts.
How are Perfect Bound Journals made?
Perfect Bound Journals are crafted through a unique binding process that involves several easy steps. First, we print the pages and trim them to the right size. Then, we gather the pages and gently grind down the spine to create a rough surface, which helps the adhesive bond better. After that, we apply a flexible glue to the spine and wrap a cover around the book, pressing it to ensure a secure hold. Finally, we trim the book again for a polished finish. This method results in a professional printed Journal with a flat spine, perfect for all your writing needs! To find out more, visit our book printing guide.
Should I upload my artwork as spreads or single pages?
When it comes to Perfect Bound Journal printing, we handle inners and covers a bit differently to ensure the best quality and alignment for your final product.
What paper GSM should I select for perfect binding?
When choosing the paper GSM for your Perfect Bound Journal, consider the writing or sketching experience you want to create. Typically, a paper weight ranging from 120gsm to 350gsm is suitable. Journals designed primarily for daily writing, note-taking, or text often use lighter, flexible inner pages (around 120gsm–150gsm), while art Journals or premium planners requiring a thicker, more luxurious feel tend to opt for inner stocks closer to 150gsm–170gsm. For a truly high-end finish, we recommend choosing a heavy 250gsm–350gsm cardstock for your wrap-around cover to ensure durability, paired with lighter inner pages that make the Journal a breeze to open and write in.
What is the ideal gutter size for Perfect Bound Journals?
In Perfect Bound Journals, the gutter, often called the 'safe area', refers to the blank space between the text and the inner edge of a page. To ensure your content remains easily readable and does not get obscured in the spine, it is advisable to maintain a gutter of at least 3mm on each edge. If you have any questions or need assistance, visit our artwork support guide or contact our customer service team, who are always happy to help.

Lamination
Lamination types
Matt: Protects your print while giving a subtle and soft finish.
Gloss: Offers a high shine that works well with images and solid colours.
Velvet: Gives a soft, touchable texture and non-shine finish.
Anti-Bacterial Gloss: This high-shine gloss is embedded with silver ions that prevents 99% of bacteria surviving.
Lamination Sides
None: Without lamination, you can feel the real texture of the paper, and it's easy to write on.
One side: We will always laminate on page 1 of your PDF when ‘one side’ is selected. If that isn't the page you want laminated, just swap the page order in your PDF.
Both sides: The most popular choice when laminating – choose both sides when you want double the protection.
Remember: Laminating will protect your print but you will not be able to write on it with certain types of pen. If you're printing with heavy ink coverage, we recommend using lamination to protect the print and prevent damage.
