Why Use Canva for DIY Wedding Invitations and Save the Dates?
Canva is a design platform that offers a range of Wedding Invite and Save the Dates templates for customising your Wedding stationery. Here’s why Canva is the go-to choice for a lot of our bride and groom customers:
- Easy to Use: No professional design experience necessary. Canva’s drag-and-drop functionality makes designing simple and stress-free.
- Beautiful Templates: Browse hundreds of pre-designed Wedding Invite templates that can be easily personalised.
- Customisable Designs: From fonts and colours to images and layouts, you can tailor every element to match your wedding theme.
- Affordable: Canva is free to use for basic features, with affordable premium options available for additional elements.
Step 1: Create a Canva Account
If you’re new to Canva, the first thing you’ll need to do is sign up for a free account at www.canva.com.
We would suggest paying for Canva Pro as it unlocks much more printing benefits. They are currently offering a 30 day free trial, which you can cancel at any time!
Step 2: Choose the Right Template
Search “Wedding Invitations” or “Wedding Save the Dates” in the Canva template library, and you’ll find a variety of designs to suit any theme—from rustic to modern, floral to minimalist. Choose a template that resonates with your wedding style.
If you’re designing completely from scratch, select “Custom Size” and input the dimensions of your card. Popular Invitation sizes are typically A5 or A6.
Step 3: Customise Your Wedding Stationery
This is where the magic happens. Use Canva’s tools to personalise your Wedding Invitation template:
- Edit the Text: Replace placeholder text with your own wedding details. Include the essentials such as your names, wedding date, venue, start time, and RSVP instructions. You will also need to consider whether you need a different version for your evening guests.
- Choose Fonts: Canva has a wide selection of fonts. Select a font that aligns with your wedding vibe—elegant scripts for a formal affair or playful lettering for a casual event.
- Add Colours: Match your wedding colour palette by tweaking the template’s colours. Canva’s tools make it simple to customise borders, backgrounds, and text colours.
- Include Graphics or Photos: Want to add a personal touch? Upload your favourite couple photo or include themed graphics like flowers, leaves, or geometric shapes.
- Experiment with Layouts: Use Canva’s grid and alignment features to achieve a clean and polished design.
Step 4: Proofread and Finalise
Triple-check the details for accuracy, including spelling and dates. Share the design with your partner, close friend or family member for a fresh pair of eyes. When happy with your design, you can download your Invitations.
Top tip: If you’re adding in a QR code, test that it works with your phone camera!
Step 5: Print or Share
At Printed.com, we recommend selecting these three outputs before downloading your designs and sending them to print:
- PDF Print: Save out your file as PDF Print.
- Add Crop Marks: Select the ‘crop marks and bleed‘ box. This means you will avoid unintended white edges when printing to the edge of the paper.
- Colour Profile: Change the profile to CMYK. RGB is the colour mode you see on digital screens (laptop, phone) and CMYK is the colour mode for print. By selecting CMYK, your colours are going to be more accurate.
