2022 wedding trends – from vibrant colours to Belly Bands

Our 2022 wedding trends are here! This year is poised to be HUGE for weddings, with a record number of lovebirds due to tie the knot.

With December being the most popular month for engagements, it’s time to transition into wedding planning season. Which means it’s time to start thinking about all the details for the biggest party you’ll likely ever throw!

Some wedding trends are timeless, and others fade year to year. If you’re looking to plan an unforgettable 2022 wedding for yourself or a client, here are three trends to keep a close eye on.

Vibrant Colours

Peach Wolfe

Your 2022 wedding doesn’t need to be restricted to muted palettes such as whites and pastels. It’s time for more vibrant colours to come out and play (even the experts at Pantone agree).

The pandemic forced couples to downscale and bid farewell to classic traditions like cake-cutting and the first dance. So it’s no surprise to see people wanting to embrace new design elements.

A bold use of colour can be expressed throughout every stage of your wedding stationery. From Foiled Invitations and RSVP’s to Place Cards and Table Plans. And if you’re opting for bright colours, we recommend our Silk or Gloss paper so that your creations don’t lose their vibrancy.

We enlisted some expert help to comment on this 2022 wedding trend. Wedding Stationer, Sarah from Peach Wolfe said “Given what the wedding industry has been through it’s no surprise to me that more and more people are opting to shake things up and embrace bright, bold and vibrant wedding palettes. Celebrations of love with family and friends are well overdue and festivals seem like a distant memory, so what better way to celebrate this year than with lots of colour. And colourful wedding stationery is the perfect way to set the tone and give your guests a glimpse of what awaits them on your big day.

One of my favourite ways to incorporate vibrant colours into my designs is by using bold patterns and prints. I find that adding a colourful print to the reverse side of an invitation or an insert is a great way of making your stationery fun and impactful. You also have the option of carrying that pattern through into extra finishes such as Envelope Liners and Belly Bands to tie everything together. And in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a funky Envelope Liner!”

Personalised Illustrations

Peony and Rose

Whilst photo booths were once a really unique talking point at any party. Popping up just about everywhere, they’ve now turned into a ‘been there, done that’ moment. Capturing the excitement of the day is still important, so couples are going back to basics.

Before there was the camera, there was a painter! Yes, you heard us right. Live painters are becoming a bigger part of the wedding entertainment, by painting a scene in real-time on the day. Not only does the painting end up being a wedding keepsake or heirloom, but it’s also a unique way to thank guests for attending your special day.

Whether it’s a Thank You Card, Invitation or Giclée Art Print, personalised illustrations are set to be a big 2022 wedding trend. There really isn’t a better way to add a personal touch!

We spoke to our customer and wedding stationer, Sophie from Peony and Rose about the art of personalisation. Sophie said “Personalised venue illustrations are one of my favourite ways to include bespoke artwork in wedding stationery. The variety of venues I get to illustrate is amazing and keeps my work fun and interesting. Over the past year I’ve done everything from rustic barns and country manors to Jacobean mansions.

There is definitely an increasing interest in wedding stationery featuring personalised venue illustrations. It’s the perfect addition to a Save The Date and Invitation as it gives guests a preview of the setting for the big day.”

Belly Bands

Lilac & White

Despite the rather unusual name, Belly Bands are fast becoming the perfect accessory to add an elegant finishing touch. Designed to secure your Wedding Invitations and RSVP’s, there are so many other ways you can use these simple strips of paper.

Why not incorporate them into your table spread, by adding them around guest’s napkins. Decorate them with your choice of names, initials or even the food menu to make your wedding meal truly unique.

We talked to our customer, Lilac & White about this 2022 wedding trend: “I like the way Belly Bands can add something a bit different to the guest’s place setting. With either a personalised Menu or a little Thank You Note, it shows they are being looked after. It’s all in the details as they say!”
