What is Z Fold Leaflet printing?

A Z Fold Leaflet is folded in a zigzag pattern, just like the letter itself. Because the panels unfold in a continuous fashion, this type of fold is ideal for sequential content that needs to be consumed in a particular order.

When folded, Z Fold Leaflets are compact and easy to hand out. When opened, they reveal six panels – three on the front, three on the back. These distinct sections are ideal for breaking down information, whether that’s into step-by-step guides, instructions, schedules, itineraries, or timelines.

Why choose Z Fold Leaflets?

Z Fold Leaflets are versatile and practical, with lots of space to make them your own. Here are just a few reasons why we love them:

They’re pocket-sized

When folded, they fit perfectly in wallets, pockets, and bags. Our smallest option is just 66mm when folded, meaning your message travels with your customers wherever they go.

They’re engaging

While a Flat Flyer might get a quick glance, a Z Fold is more interactive. They stay in people’s hands for longer, giving you more time to make an impression! The six panels are a great way to tell a story, or guide readers through information in a way that feels natural and easy to follow – another way to keep them engaged.

They stand out

They’re more interactive than a flat option, and appeal to people’s natural curiosity (and nosiness!). If you hand someone a Z Fold Leaflet, chances are they will want to see what’s inside, which is where you draw them in.

Designing your Z Fold Leaflet

A Z Fold Leaflet is a great way to draw people in, but getting the design right is crucial to ensure they keep reading! Here are our top design tips:

Plan your panels

Z Fold Leaflets are ideal for sequential information and storytelling, so think about the order people will read your panels. The front panel is your first impression. As they unfold, guide them through in a logical order to keep them interested –  save your call to action for the final panel.

Keep text readable

Avoid cramming too much onto each panel, white space is your friend! Consider breaking large chunks of text into smaller sections, or, if you’re unable to edit your content down, take advantage of our larger Z Fold Leaflet sizes, like 420 x 210mm. Use clear fonts that are easy to read. We recommend at least 10pt for body text.

Use high-quality images

Images should be at least 300dpi for crisp printing. Blurry photos won’t do your brand any favours. Make sure they fit properly within your design by using our free downloadable templates.

Consider the fold

Keep important information away from the fold lines to ensure it can be seen clearly.

Choosing your paper and finish

The paper you choose affects how your Z Fold Leaflet looks and feels. Here’s what we offer:

Paper weight

The minimum paper GSM necessary for Z Fold Leaflets is 170 on our most popular stocks such as Silk, Uncoated and Gloss. However, a slightly lower GSM can be selected on papers like Acquerello as they are a naturally thicker stock. 300-350gsm tends to be the best option for Z Fold – it folds nice and cleanly without being too thick.

Finish options

Lamination is a great way to add the perfect finishing touch to your Leaflet. We especially recommend adding it if you’re printing on our Silk paper. But which should you choose?

Matt: Gives a soft, non-reflective finish to protect your print. Great for text-heavy designs.

Gloss: A high-shine finish perfect for images and solid colours.

Velvet: Gives a stunning, touchable finish without shine for a luxury feel.

Anti-Bacterial Gloss: A high-shine gloss embedded with silver ions that prevents 99% of bacteria surviving.

Remember: Lamination protects your print, but it means you won’t be able to write on it with certain types of pen. We recommend using lamination for any design with heavy ink coverage to protect the print and prevent damage.

Making the most of your Z Fold Leaflets

Once you’ve got your Leaflets, here’s how to use them effectively:

Hand them out strategically

Don’t just leave them in a pile once they arrive! Hand them to people personally when you can.

A personal handoff means they’re more likely to look at it. Plus, you can start a conversation.

Place them where they’ll be seen

Reception areas, counters, and waiting rooms are brilliant spots for leaving Leaflets. Anywhere people have a moment to browse. Make sure they’re displayed attractively, and always ask permission first!

Include a clear call to action

Tell people what you want them to do next. Visit your website? Call you? Come to your event?

Make it easy for them to take the next step by including all the details they need. Adding a QR code is a great way to ensure people can easily find you.
