Bleed is the area on your artwork that extends beyond the actual dimensions of the document. Bleed is needed to avoid strips of white paper showing on the edges of your print should your prints be misaligned when cut to size. All objects in your artwork that touch the edges of the document require bleed, for example a background colour or image should cover the entire bleed area. You can add bleed by extending any objects that touch the edge of your document by 3mm outside your artwork.
You can set up artwork in various programmes, below are details of how to amend the size of your file in the more common programmes.
Always remember to set up your artwork with bleed, so if you choose a business card 85x55mm remember your 3mm bleed on all edges. If you are not using an artwork programme that allows you to add bleed like Quark, Illustrator and Indesign, then you will need to add 3mm each side to your document size.
So a 85x55mm card file would be 91x61mm. Make sure to keep all text well in from the edge, the guillotine will trim it down to 85x55mm (only colour or background image should be in the bleed area).
Illustrator: Select file then document setup
InDesign: Select file then document setup
Photoshop:Select image then image size
Quark:Select file then page setup
Word:Select file then page layout then paper
Hint: choose custom size if what you want isn't there, and enter your page dimensions.

Yes. We have a range of professional designs ready to use! Simply click 'Choose a design' on the business cards or stickers product page and you can select a design based on your industry, or design requirements!
We've made it very easy to edit the designs so that you can include any details you want. All you have to do is select the text you want to change in the "Add details" side bar and type over it.
The way your finished design looks in the final preview is exactly how it will appear when it is printed. To make sure that it's perfect, we will always ask you to check that all your details are correct (no nasty spelling mistakes or incorrect contact numbers) and that everything is laid out correctly. Our final checklist will help you to make sure you've dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's before you take your order to print.
We've added a more detailed help section on our options page so that you can see the paper types up close, and even know how they make your print look and feel, before choosing. Tips and advice on paper weight and lamination types are also included in our help guide, so you can be confident that you're making the best choices for your design!
