Pushing the boundaries of print: 5 innovative print jobs
Far from being dead, print is continually being celebrated as an innovative medium, more than capable of moving with the times to capture the imagination. Ever a supporter of innovation within the print industry, we have been out scouring the web for some of the print jobs and projects that we think are really something special. Here’s what we found…
Creative agency FP Creative whipped up this stunning ‘potted history’ of the Land Rover Defender to celebrate the vehicle’s story. The project consists of 60 pages spread across two books, an A1 fold out poster and one of six miniature pop-out self-assembly card models of classic Defenders. More astonishing is the fact that this particular project was created in a 4 week turnaround.
swivelCard – intelliPaper
Imagine all the things you could do if your business card had a USB drive embedded into the paper stock. The swivelCard is one smart piece of print—a few folds, a couple of tears and your business card doubles up as a handy USB stick. This opens up the possibility to put entire portfolios, proposals and brochures onto a networking tool small enough to fit inside your wallet.
Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club – T/OD and NAKED Communications
Tangent on Demand and NAKED Communications teamed up to produce this six-layer laser cut direct mail piece of world landmarks for Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club members. The project was cut from 400gsm Olin Cream paper and inserted into a white wooden frame with Foamex spacers. The wooden frame was then printed with the Virgin Atlantic logo on a Swiss Q Flatbed machine.
The World’s Smallest Portfolio – Michael Lester
On asking himself which aspect of his work he wanted people to talk about, designer and illustrator Michael decided that being an ideas-driven visual communicator was the key. In answer to a brief set by jelly London for the D&AD New Blood Festival, he created the world’s smallest portfolio. They were presented with mini hand-signed magnifying cards so the tiny booklets could be read by recipients.
Cut out wall calendar – TOFU STUDIO for Amber Gold
Breathing life into the humble wall calendar is this incredible piece by TOFU STUDIO in Poland. The second paper cut entry to make it into the list, this wall calendar uses contrasting colours to really exploit the medium and was the GRAND PRIX winner at the International Contest of Wall Calendars and Christmas cards VIDICAL 2012.
