Wedding season retrospective

At the start of 2014 we asked you to grab your confetti and best hat for our wedding season. During wedding season we chatted to industry experts about everything from themed weddings to DIY hand finishing. Here are some of our highlights:

At the climax of wedding season was Wedding Week. Each day we looked at a different on-trend wedding theme and spoke to a different wedding stationer about how they have designed a suite to complement each theme.

The Great Gatsby: How to pull off an Art Deco themed wedding

Helen Scott designed this beautiful Art Deco inspired piece for a Gatsby themed wedding. Since last year's smash hit film, The Great Gatsby, the wedding industry has seen the resurgence in all things 1920s and Art Deco. This trend is set to continue well in to 2014 and beyond.

Beach brides: how to find inspiration for beach-themed wedding stationery

Amanda from Cards & Cotton shared the creative process of designing a suite for a costal wedding with us. Amanda also told us about how wedding stationery should give guests a little glimpse of the day to come. Designing this stationery was the perfect way to give the bride and groom’s guests a hint at what they could expect on the big day.

How to videos:

Our friendly design team showed you how to add festive bunting to your invitations and stationery designs using this quick technique. By using the shape tool to make simple shapes and then filling them with your own custom patterns and colours, you can make something very modern and on trend.

We also gave you the low down on how to create a glamorous Gatsby (Art Deco) style wedding invitation in Photoshop using the pen tool and shape tool.

Wedding stationery unveiled – everything you need for the big day

Hayley from By Invitation gave all brides-to-be a run down on what stationery they’d need for the big day and even gave some handy hints about timing. This post was published in conjunction with Wedding Ideas Magazine and is one of our personal favourites!

Poem cards – a great way to ask for a particular wedding present

Many couples now live together for years before they get married so do not opt to have a traditional gift list and ask for money or holiday voucher instead. Scarlet Rose stationery showed us how to create a poem cards to ask for the perfect gift. These can be slipped inside invitations and look great.

The Wonderful Wedding Design-Off

We threw down the gauntlet to wedding stationers and designers across the UK, asking them to share their best wedding stationery designs and to enter them in to the Wonderful Wedding Design-Off. The standard of entries was incredible. Over 140 keen and talented designers submitted designs and battled away to reach the coveted position of ‘finalist’.

Our five finalists were:

Kelly Jones of Kelly Jones Design

Katy Halford of Katy Halford Illustration

Nishma Mistry of Doves & Peacocks

Chrissy Gaskell of Chrissy Gaskell Designs

April of Blue Bird Wedding Stationery

With April winning over all and bagging herself a brand new iMac as the top prize.  A big thank you to everyone who entered!

After spending wedding season chatting to all our lovely new wedding stationer customers, we decided to take the relationship one step further.  We developed The Wedding Stationers’ Hub, a place to share tips, get answers from fellow professionals and network in a safe and fun environment.

The good news is that Wedding Wednesday is going to become a permanent feature on the printed.com blog, to keep bringing you a slice of matrimonial excitement every week.  Keep checking back on our blog for more wedding news.

I wish I'd know about this contest before, but thanks for the recap. There's so much to look into and so many inspiring designs! Chrissy's work brought a smile to my face as well. x
