Reward partner Bigstock talks stock imagery, simple business and bowling

We recently caught up with Bigstock to find out what's behind the thousands of those images. Brian Masefield, Bigstock's Community Manager, was kind enough to answer our questions and give us an insight into what they do and what makes them tick.

What exactly does Bigstock offer?

We offer over 11 million high-quality stock images, illustrations and vectors at very affordable prices. Our collection features work from artists all over the world, and is used by a wide range of customers, from small businesses to international advertising agencies.

How long have you been in business for?

Bigstock was founded in 2004, but was acquired by our parent company, Shutterstock, in 2010.

Have there been any big announcements recently?

 “Live Chat” has been a great addition to our site, allowing us to have real-time contact with our customers, and to assist them when they need it. 

How are you different to other stock imagery websites?

First and foremost, our pricing structure. It’s transparent. Our prices are shown right on our homepage and on each and every individual image page. We strive to make our marketplace as easy to shop as possible for our customers.  

What’s the best business advice you received in the past year?

We feel that the best advice often comes from our own customers. Something we hear quite a bit, when it comes to online retailing in general, is to just “Keep it simple.” Listen to what your customers’ and contributors’ needs are, and seek ways to meet those needs.

What was the last thing the team there did together socially?

We feel really lucky to have our offices right in NYC, where there are plenty of random places to go and have some fun. We recently went as a group to SPiN, a “ping pong lounge.” We had a blast. It was a fun mix of leisurely fun, teambuilding and … ice-cold competition.

If the team had to compete against printed.com at any sport, what would they choose?

Bowling, easily. Back in June, we attended the IRCE (Internet Retailer Conference and Expo) in Chicago. One night, we decided to play a friendly game of bowling after dinner. As it turns out, there were numerous “Bigstockers” who were amazing (yes, amazing) at it. Countless strikes. Basically, it was a bowling ball bloodsport that all others should fear. You’ve been warned.
