If your Facebook business page resembles a ghost town that no one visits or hardly knows exists you’ve got a choice to make. You could either,
1.Give up and miss out on the great opportunities of building long term relationships with your customers and prospects, additional high octane visibility in Google search and the potential of reaching a global audience of nearly 1 billion.
2.Start using creative ways on Facebook that its users appreciate and get people talking, creating a community who love what you do and happily tell others about you.
If you chose option two, keep reading!
So, how do you take advantage of these great opportunities?
The truth is simple: It’s not enough to ‘have a Facebook page’ if you’re going to leave it sitting there hoping that people will find you. If you don’t give people a reason to visit or interact, you won’t get any results from your Facebook marketing.
First of all, you need to understand why people are hanging out there...
Mostly, people use Facebook during their down time to catch up with friends and family although they are also connecting with businesses that share their values and interests.
Every time you post, your potential customer should be on your mind. Before you hit ‘post’, think: ‘What’s In It for Them?’
Is your update:
- Feeding their curiosity
- Providing value or insight?
If your update does one (or all) of these things then you’re on the right track. If not, think on it some more.
Here are six Facebook updates that grab attention
Top Tips and Free Resources
You know that the expert knowledge you have to hand comes to you naturally and that’s why your customers come to you. You know it all, inside and out. Start by sharing your experiences and expertise to build a level of trust with your Facebook network and make sure you’re in everyone’s ‘Little Black Book’.
Peak Behind the Curtain
Fly on the Wall TV documentaries have long been a popular past time, we love to know what goes on behind the scenes. Post pictures and updates of your day-to-day business lives so we can understand you, your team and your business better.
These can be video tips of you and your team giving us tangible, useful take-aways or it could be videos you’ve found on YouTube. Your favourite music playlist, a funny video or something more on topic. Remember, it doesn’t always have to be about your business. Inject some fun and show us what you enjoy so we can enjoy it with you.
Do you know the best way to find out what your customers think? Ask them! They will tell you if they think your next project, book cover, recipe, business card, service is a good idea or not. Including them in the decision and planning of your business builds trust and ultimately provides a service that people want.
Keep your questions simple and throw in some conversational ones. Ask them what they’re doing at the weekend, whether they prefer ‘this’ or ‘that’. The less people need to think the more they will get involved.
Quotes, Sayings and Jokes
Everyone likes to be inspired, laugh at a good joke or groan at a bad one. Facebook users LOVE easy to digest tidbits and these will get them hitting the ‘like’ button every time.
Images speak 1000 words and on Facebook they pop out in the News Feed among the LOL cat videos and baby shots. Choose eye catching pictures that grab attention or get fans really involved by starting a weekly caption competition.
And remember, if you don’t ask you don’t get!
Ask your fans to share your latest video, to ‘like’ if they agree with your quote, or comment on your new business idea. There is so much happening on Facebook to distract people’s attention. If you don’t give people a simple instruction to do something, they will be on to the next update without a second thought.
