Digital Shoreditch kicks off this week, a festival in celebration of the pioneering digital creativity in London. Built around Digital Shoreditch’s ethos of interaction, matchmaking and networking, the festival will bring together over 300 speakers across more than 40 events with an anticipated 50,0000 visitors.
Located in London’s digital hub, an area that has been heralded as Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley, the events will take place at locations around Shoreditch, Brick Lane and Clerkenwell.
An emerging partnership with Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest festival has encouraged the founders of Digital Shoreditch to foster new ambition for the festival's future.
“Within four years, we want to be as significant as SXSW and be recognised as one of the world’s premier events for showcasing the most talented companies and individuals within the digital and creative technologies sectors,” said Digital Shoreditch founder Kam Star.
The festival’s programme is sprawling - with a dynamic and diverse roster of speakers and events. In any one day, visitors will have the opportunity to engage in educational presentations, forge new business relationships at a number of networking events, be challenged by creative exhibitions or socialise with digitally-minded individuals at one of the events’ parties.
This year’s event will run over a two-week period and encompass nine different themes, including innovation, capital, growth, branding and inspiration. Each day begins with a talk from a keynote speaker, corresponding to the theme of that day. The scheduled talks address a range of subjects, from “We Make Stories; investing in Digital Storytelling” to “Gearing up for China” and offer the opportunity to develop and update your knowledge of the digital landscape.
The printed.com team gained some great new connections and insight from Digital Shoreditch’s premiere event in May 2011. The first festival succeeded in attracting over 2000 participants and showcased the most innovative companies and individuals in the digital sector.
It goes without saying... Digital Shoreditch is the highlight of the digital sector’s summer calendar and with the way things are looking, this year’s event looks out to set a new precedent. See you there?
